October Update!

October 31, 2017

October has been a fabulous month here at Obwaagazi Academy! We’ve had lots of wonderful visitors, lots of learning, lots of play and some wonderful arts and craft sessions.

Our first set of visitors joined us all the way from the United States! Julie and Grant came during the

second week of October and came specially to visit their three sponsor children! All of the children had such a wonderful time meeting them and we couldn’t thank them enough for coming and everything they continue to do for us!

Last week our visitors included Richard Piper and his two nieces, Gemma Watts and Kerry Calloway from the UK. Richard and his nieces have done a lot of previous work here in Uganda and for Obwaagazi and Richard is now a sponsor to one of our newest students. They had such a great time during their visit and really connected with the students. They gave the children all the love they deserve and had lots of fun playing and seeing what Obwaagazi is all about and what we do.

This month also welcomed the arrival of all of your purchases from our Amazon Wishlist! We were so grateful for Julie and Grant who delivered everything to us during their visit and the children have already already started making great use out of everything during our arts and craft sessions. We want to say a massive thank you once again to anyone that helped us purchase all of these things!

The arts and craft sessions involved such a variety of creativeness this month! We started off by celebrating Uganda’s Independence Day by colouring in the Uganda flag and making loud and colourful noise makers. The week after saw us turning everyone into kings and queens as we made paper crowns and decorated them with lots of glitter, feathers and pom poms! The third week was Name Buttons! Everybody used a variety of buttons of all shape, sizes and colour to spell their name. This was a get sensory exercise as the children were able to touch and feel the shapes and the letters of their names as well as learning the spelling and the order of the letters. Our last and final week of October was used to celebrate Halloween and we used lots of different coloured tissue paper to create a colourful pumpkin collage!

We have more exciting news! Over the next two weeks, you can purchase an Obwaagazi Academy shirt, tank top, or sweatshirt through Bonfire!!! When you purchase an Obwaagazi Academy item on Bonfire, we will be able to purchase a new Obwaagazi sweatshirt for a student for their school uniform!!! If you purchase 3 items, that will cover 3 school uniform sweatshirts! Get yours today at https://www.bonfire.com/obwaagazi-academy

All of our sponsors mean so much to us and it’s always amazing to see them come to visit us and spend time with the children that they sponsor, love and care for so much! Our sponsors help to make Obwaagazi even more amazing and we couldn’t do any of it with you. It would be absolutely amazing to see more of our sponsors come to visit and we welcome anybody that would wish to!

Thank you for your continuing love and support!
